December 2025
The last months since early summer have been fast paced with a lot of house hunting then having to back out at the last minute and work being very present, the kids have been doing a lot and the news has been unrelenting.
This morning I listened to the “Rest is Politics” podcast on the way to work which I have linked below:

Without getting stuck in the details, I can say that the pace of news and developments since January 2025 has been such that every time I felt like writing something down here, I felt that it had been overtaken or gone under the wheels by the time I had a moment to sit down.
To be honest, it doesn’t feel good. Listening to this podcast really brought the message home that there isn’t much chance of going back to the rather cosy old system, we’re leaving the old harbour. It does make me sad to see the USA take on a different role in the world.
I am not at all confident that the current trajectory will take us to a better place and have a suspicion that rising inequality may risk system and trust collapse more than we currently realise.

For various reasons including those alluded to above it is now the 12th January and this post has lain incomplete whilst events have taken on new and ever more bizarre shapes. I can’t really believe that I have just listened to another podcast by two experienced political people (totally not crack-pots) discussing the possibility of hostilities between Europe and the USA. Absolutely nuts. I really do wonder how all this will end and I must admit that having children who are teens and young adults that it is not easy for them at all.
As mentioned in previous posts, I think it is becoming increasingly important to have independent and secure devices. Additionally, and now for these to be as independent of North American infrastructures and systems as possible. As crazy as this might have sounded not too long ago.
