September 2026
I did jot down some first and second impressions about the Jolla C2 phone and Sailfish OS in an earlier post sometime around the beginning of the year (well it was March actually if this is important):

I have basically had it running alongside my main device as a secondary and test phone. I still really like it! It also still has the charm and slight adventure feeling of early androids so a bit of nostalgia but also a breath of fresh air in the current oppressive and over-caring ecosystems of modern smartphones.
I’ll out myself here as a non-AI type of person, I try to avoid it wherever possible and love small unbloated apps that do their thing well and quickly. I also believe deeply in plurality, choice and a bit of wild craziness if possible 🙂
Android appears to want to become a closed playground so here’s a link to those who want to keep it more open:
Something which I truly admire and love about Sailfish OS is the ability to use the basic Jolla store but also to dive into the 3rd party Storeman app with a multitude of different community apps:
In retrospect this is a real must for Sailfish OS and I should have installed it a lot earlier. In addition, there is the whole world of android virtualisation and access to an almost unlistable number of apps via F-Droid and Aurora Store.

There are so many really great apps out there with huge functionality and not all have fallen into monetisation at all costs so it is such an opportunity to be able to test so many of them. That said, there is always a certain amount of tweaking and experimenting necessary in Sailfish, well not always, but one does need to be prepared to try and test things.
There are so many apps I would like to give a shout-out to. With the new Android bluetooth functionality there has also been a great step forward for adding more devices, like, for example, Gadgetbridge to get smartwatches integrated whilst still maintaining privacy and control over data.
Here are a few shout outs for apps:
I really like this app with offline maps and is really useful for walking with detailed osm maps.
Firefox, Vivaldi both work excellently.
I haven’t tried banking apps yet because all that I do on the primary phone, but authenticators like freeOTP do work fine.
Updates will come in here….
